It has been such a busy time here in Nairobi lately. Things are still going well.
A few pictures that might be of interest. The first is of the type of milk I buy here. It is called Long Life because it can sit on the shelf for months without going bad. It is processed that way because a lot of people here do not have refrigerators, so this way they can have milk. People here can also get milk similar to what we get in the U.S. However, sometimes when I go shopping it is another hour or so before I get home, so it is better for me to be able to get the Long Life brand so that it doesn't go bad.
The second picture is of a guy hanging onto the back of a vehicle. Some people here jump onto the back of vehicles like this to get a free ride somewhere. It is very dangerous and possibly illegal. Still, I caught this guy doing it, and many others do as well.
The third picture is of a traffic jam. The traffic here is awful, and some vehicles simply ignore the rules of the road. On a two-lane road, sometimes people will make five lanes, all going wrong directions - similar to what you see in the picture. The matatu (a form of public transportation here) drivers are the worst. They will make new lanes anytime they don't want to sit and wait in traffic. Sometimes, they even make the lane going the wrong way. The big, green matatu you see in the left of the picture is facing the right direction, but they were in fact backing it up, so it was going the wrong way.
Just some of the fun of being in Nairobi! Thankfully, I don't have to drive in all the traffic. I just have to sit patiently and hope that my drivers can handle it...and they are very good at handling it! ;-)
